4`s/5`s/6`s Match Reports 27th of January, 2010The 4th team placed comfortably in the top half of the table at the mid-season break, travelled the short distance to Goodwin SC to play Sheffield University Bankers. With several players unavailable, a mixture of experience, youth and a number of imports from the 5th team, playing their second game of the day, took to the field against a Bankers side below them in the league but who proved to be a very useful outfit on the day. The first half saw a number of chances at both ends but neither side were able to break the deadlock due to good defending by both teams but especially from Rotherham`s Goalkeeper Rimmington. The second half saw reinforcements to the Rotherham midfield with Rob Owen`s arrival, which created both fresh legs for the tiring Watson, who had already starred for the 5th team, and more outlet options for the Rotherham defence. Again chances were created and squandered at both ends but with 15 minutes remaining some good work down the right from Andy Bray found debutant Freddy Bowers in the D who picked out `evergreen` Craig Andrews on the far post to open the scoring. Bankers tried to push forward in search of an equaliser but excellent defensive work from old hands Swinscoe, Ferguson and Bray supported by youngsters Downs, Woodcock-Fowles and Richard Atkin held firm to deny the Bankers forwards any real opportunities. In the closing minutes Rotherham were awarded a penalty corner which was defected home from an Andrews strike by Freddy Bowers to cap an excellent performance and a final scoreline of 2-0. A great start to the second half of the season and some very promising performances from the youngsters! Man of the Match - Andy Ferguson.
