If you are reading this, it could mean that you are possibly despondent at the club you are playing at and wondering what else is on offer, or simply that you are moving to the South Yorkshire area and are wondering what the local teams have to offer. I will briefly attempt to explain a little about our club.

Rotherham Hockey Club may have been founded in 1927, but is still going strong today. We run six sides which with the exception of the 1st team, play in the Yorkshire Leagues.

Rotherham 1st X1 play and are now established in the Premier League of the Northern Premier League, one step down from playing National League Hockey. The 1st XI always have an excellent spirit within the team, who have played excellent hockey this year. The team are always looking for players who feel they would be capable of playing at this level, or who feel that if they were to move to the club and play 2ndX1 that they could force themselves into the 1st team.

Rotherham 1st Team - 2004

The 2nd X1 play in Yorkshire League Division One. From a club point of view this level is not high enough to support our 1st Team but on a positive note they are improving. The side were promoted a couple of seasons ago and have since established and secured a place in their division and given themselves a basis on which to build for next season. There is an excellent spirit within the team and a mixture of experience and some very talented youth.

The 3rd X1 play in Division 3 having gained promotion three times in the last three years. A talented young side with a smattering of experience to keep the lads in check. They show an excellent team spirit with plenty of nights out.

The 4th X1, in Yorkshire League 6, again have the mixture of youth and experience. There are some real characters in this side.

The 5th X1's experience in the side is awesome; several of the players are in their early sixties and at the other end of the age scale there are some younger lads learning their way from the 6th XI. A great fun side to be a part of.

The 6th X1 is a badgers side. A side of young lads who are being prepared for Men's league hockey, they are guided and coached by Senior players who give the kids the confidence to play the game as should be played. It is also a team that allows inexperienced players, or players who have never played before, to play the game.

Rotherham offers excellent club training; Stuart Forrest has to be seen to be believed. He is demanding, loud and aggressive but one of the finest coaches in Yorkshire. Training is hard but club members have turned out in force every Thursday from 7pm until members want to go home.

Rotherham has lots to offer we have a Social Section, which now boasts Quiz Nights, Race Nights, Casino Nights and Drinking Nights.

Rotherham Hockey Club is a friendly club and a family club. We are very proud of that and work hard towards it, and we want new members who are keen to test themselves and also to enjoy themselves.
